The Horse Protection League

board members

The Horse Protection League is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors.

Erin Quinn - President

Erin is a Denver native and a career Federal employee with the Bureau of Reclamation. She has two children, Olivia and Nathan.

As a child, Erin was in Westernaires and continues to ride in their adult program during winter months. Erin has always been an advocate for the humane treatment and welfare of animals. As her children grew up and she had more free time, Erin wanted to give back to the equine community that always brought her so much joy.

Erin Quinn joined The Horse Protection League (HPL) as a volunteer in 2022. Her love of horses and dedication to HPL grew into a broader range of responsibilities as she joined the Board of Directors. Erin became the President of the Board in June 2024. Under her direction, HPL celebrated their 30th anniversary and established several partnerships with nonprofits, universities, and the local community.

Erin’s family is also involved in special events at the ranch and always there to lend a helping hand.

Amy Good - Vice President

My name is Amy Good, and I live in Crawford, Colorado which is a small town on the Western Slope.

I recently retired after more than 25 years as a Human Resources Director in the medical field.

The last 22 years I was with a large, physician-owned medical group with over 500 employees.

My niche focus for more than 20 years was in 401K plan document development and as such, I was a fiduciary. I worked closely with the CFO developing plans that enriched the physicians and staff equally. I was also chair of the employee satisfaction, and the customer service committees developing strategies to retain employees and patients alike.

My involvement with HPL is relatively new. I was encouraged by a friend to become a volunteer last year. I have become interested in the quality of life for the equines served by HPL and hope to be able to use the skills from my professional career to write grants and help secure funding for the group. I have taken on-line grant writing courses and continue to research and learn about opportunities in this field with hopes of contributing to the great work being done by HPL.

In my personal life, I enjoy reading, hiking, walking, canoeing and fishing, catch and release of course!

Carrie Maiorano - Treasurer

Carrie has loved horses pretty much all her life. She began riding lessons at the age of 7 and got her first of 5 horses at the age of 12. She participated in 4-H in Michigan and began competing in hunter/jumper shows for the next 10 years. After grad school, the horse activities went by the wayside and Carrie worked in public accounting to receive her CPA certification. She got married, had three daughters, and moved to Canada for her husband’s career with KPMG. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Golden, CO and she found The Horse Protection League where she began volunteering in summer 2023. She enjoys feeding the horses and volunteering on Wednesdays with a great group of horse lovers. She became the Treasurer of HPL in September of 2024 and looks forward to helping raise funds for this worthy cause!

Joanna "Jo" Seiner - Secretary

Jo’s love of horses started at an early age. She grew up show jumping in Indiana and then decided to give back to the community by volunteering at a therapeutic riding center while she lived in Florida. She loved volunteering so much that when she moved to Colorado, she immediately set out to find that special place out west. In 2017, Jo started feeding the equines at HPL and then worked her way up to a wrangler and then volunteer manager. She’s passionate about animal welfare and beyond proud to be part of an organization that’s been helping horses for over 30 years. “This ranch holds a special place in my heart. I’m incredibly thankful for the experience, wonderful people, and beautiful equines I’ve met along the way!”

Grace Carter - Member

I didn’t grow up with horses but I was the kid who had a million Breyer model horses and loped around the backyard with my stick horse all summer long! I worked at a barn through college and have volunteered at several horse rescues and therapeutic riding programs before landing at HPL. I started volunteering at HPL as a feeder back in 2017, became a wrangler in 2021, and have served as the volunteer coordinator for the past year.

I am also an active member of the Jefferson County Horse Council and am one of the barn managers for the JeffCo Emergency Evacuation Team. I currently lease a wonderful mare and love trail riding and participating in Adult Ride with Westernaires.

HPL is one of my favorite places, the deep peace at the ranch and all the wonderful horses are so good for my heart. My goal as a board member is to continue the strong tradition of providing a safe haven for equines and continue to grow and develop our volunteer crew.

Robyn Mueller - Member

Robyn is from a farm family in western Iowa and shared a lifelong love of horses with her father. Growing up with four horses, Robyn participated in barrel racing and pole bending, and eventually trained in other equestrian sports. Jumping was magical!

Before moving to Colorado three years ago to be closer to her son, Robyn volunteered with Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan, homing two female Labrador retrievers, breeding, whelping, and stress training. Upon settling in Gilpin County, she joined the Gilpin County Animal Response Team (GCART) and trained in animal rescue and evacuation with Jefferson County as well as emergency training with the Red Cross.

With a background in finance, working for many years as a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch, Robyn brings experience in budget planning and grant writing to the board.

Jessica Perrin - Member

I was born and raised on a ranch in Southern Colorado, where horses were part of everyday life from a very young age. We had mules, draft mares, a jack named Roscoe, and many other farm animals. Although I eventually moved to the city, I have always searched for a way back to horses.

In October 2024, I found my place at The Horse Protection League and truly enjoy every minute I get to spend there with the herd. Those early experiences shaped a lifelong respect for horses and the people who care for them. I’m honored to serve on the board of The Horse Protection League and to support its mission of protecting, rehabilitating, and advocating for horses in need. Living near the ranch makes this work especially meaningful, and I’m grateful to be part of an organization doing such important work in our community.
